Study to Improve Course Evaluation Program (at Chungbuk National University College of Medicine/Graduate Medical School)

Abstract
Purpose:The aim of this research is to find the way to improve our course evaluation program by analysing the status of present course evaluation program and the response of members in Chungbuk National University College of Medicine/Graduate Medical School to our present course evaluation.

Materials and Methods :A survey targeting the members in Chungbuk National University College of Medicine/Graduate Medical School was carried out from July to October 2009. 180 students and 71 professors responded to the survey among 203 students and 126 professors. Return rate was 88.7% with students and 56.3% with professors.

Results:Satisfaction rate with the course evaluation program was mostly high (more than 78%). But they also asked modification of the evaluation program. About course evaluation questionnaires, students required more direct and specific evaluation system. Active feedback after evaluation was needed. Most of the students (76.7%) responded to the questions with honesty and sincerity except some (23.33%). Some professors (21.13%) couldn¡¯t accept the evaluation results as itself and more than half of the professors agreed to have the reinterpretation of the student¡¯s responses from a professional viewpoint. Participation rate of the professors in the course evaluation meeting was 59.15% (all of the meetings), 15.49% (half of the meetings), 12.68% (1/3 of the meetings). Most of the professors (95.77%) admitted the necessity of the course evaluation meeting.

Conclusion:We need to develope more appropriate course evaluation questionnaires to each courses, do active feedback after evaluation and review the correlation between student¡¯s characters and evaluation questionnaires.
